MANIPUR TRIBALS’ PROTEST | How the Number of Days is being counted

Tribals uprising started on 31st August 2015 against the three anti-tribal’s bills passed by Manipur Legislative Assembly. Various students’ bodies all over India called emergency meetings at their respective places on the evening/ night of 31st August 2015. Tedious deliberations stretched for hours. As for MTFD, various students’ organisations in the Capital of India called emergency meeting within their organizations and resolved to hold joint meetings. Accordingly, Joint Meeting was held at JNU on 1st September 2015 at 2:00 a.m., Thus, MTFD was formed. Joint Action Committee was also formed at the epicenter of the protest, Churachandpur, later on September 2, 2015. All tribals’ organizations in Manipur and beyond endorsed and aligned themselves with the JAC.

On 1st September 2015, the public came out to streets in a more organized way and State-wide agitations rolled out. MTFD started counting the number of days of Protest since 1st September 2015. MTFD organized COFFIN MARCH to the Parliament on December 9, 2015 which also marked the 100th day of Tribals’ Protest. Observance of 200th day of protest is schedule to be held on 18th March 2016 by JAC vide their Press Communiqué dated 9th March, 2016.
